The healthcare sector in the United States is unique among developed countries in its nearly equal mix of private and public sector programs and in its necessarily diverse response to the very different needs and demands of more than 300 million people.

Since President Barack Obama’s announcement of sweeping healthcare reforms, the pressures to manage costs are more intense than ever on both private and public sector healthcare providers. Several notable healthcare providers are targeting reduction of energy consumption as a ‘quick win’, by powering down PCs overnight and by rationalizing or decommissioning inefficient physical and virtual servers.
