1. How quickly can AppClarity be implemented and begin realizing savings as IT claims?
This is where AppClarity truly sets itself apart from IT asset management solutions / IT asset management systems. While AppClarity absolutely accurately provides software footprint IT asset tracking, it also is deployable within a matter of hours/days with availability to all features and functionality as opposed to the typical months/years it takes to fully deploy and take advantage of traditional SAM solutions.
2. Can AppClarity reclaim software which was not deployed by Configuration Manager?
Yes, AppClarity is the only solution within the industry which can automate software removal, no matter how it was installed on a PC, in a way which empowers the end user, delivering key feedback if needed. This provides one of the best SCCM tools available for accelerating IT cost optimization.
3. Will AppClarity provide software entitlement assessment automation?
AppClarity’s primary and unique goal is to seek out and eliminate software waste through accurate software usage tracking. This accelerates any Software Asset Manager and/or License Manager’s approach by eliminating wasted software placement prior to assessing entitlement options. In other words, do not consume time and money assessing entitlement coverage for that which is not used.
4. Can AppClarity provide software footprints for individual products or publishers?
Yes, through AppClarity’s application normalization and waste detection process, IT asset tracking in this case is not only obtainable but, in addition, waste is exposed at the same time. We feel this provides a key advantage when providing response data to vendors, specifically when it comes to assessing maintenance agreements.
5. Will my managers require access to the SCCM/ConfigMgr console?
No, and this is a key benefit to AppClarity. Software Asset Managers, License Managers and Procurement Managers do not require access to the ConfigMgr console. Our single console may be offered to any key IT asset tracking / IT inventory management partners in order to take advantage of collected data and its numerous valuable uses to fuel efficient IT inventory management efforts.
6. May I provide access to view tracking only?
Absolutely yes, you can provide software IT asset tracking and software usage tracking, but not allow software reclamation or policy changes. AppClarity has a simple role based access system (RBAC) which allows you to tune any user’s level of interaction.
7. Does AppClarity run from the cloud?
AppClarity is an on-premises solution which means your data is collected locally and remains local. The only non-local component of AppClarity is its Catalog Sync process which provides any updates to our normalization catalog along with collecting anonymized software inventory data in order to perpetuate our keeping said catalog as up to date as possible by leveraging the most important example of real world software titles: our customer’s.
8. Will AppClarity users require a user name and password to access the console?
No, for ease of use and ensuring access may be controlled centrally for security reasons, AppClarity access is driven by Active Directory permissive use by default.
9. Can AppClarity track software as a service (SAAS) footprint?
If a thick client which is traceable via Configuration Manager is associated with this title, yes. AppClarity will allow you to seek out where placement of software in this scenario may not be achieving perceived value. This allows for future negotiations with SAAS vendors to be right sized for your environment.
10. Can AppClarity track one-off, non-standard installations?
Yes, AppClarity can track the difference between a standard/approved software package driven by IT versus a one-off, non-standard installation, providing the ability for you to control your own software catalog. This means you may identify certain software identification criteria separate from another. So where normal software packaging process would identify itself as such, one-off installations may be called out and addressed as desired.
11. Can AppClarity software inventory be leveraged with OS deployment tools?
Yes it can and is a key feature of AppClarity and its sister product Shopping. Between these two products and leveraging an automation titled AppMapping, AppClarity IT inventory management may be leveraged within your SCCM OS deployment or SCCM operating system deployment.
12. Is the AppClarity console another tool I must manage, deploy, and keep updated?
Being that 1E’s roots are firmly founded in systems management and software distribution tools, we designed the AppClarity console to not present additional weight for those work streams. This is achieved via our OneClick installer which ensures AppClarity console users may simply visit a website link (which is provided via email when AD user rights are added to the tool) and installs straight away without said user wielding local administrative rights.
13. Can software be reclaimed for one business unit but not another?
Yes, since the specific business needs for any given title can and will be different from team to team, AppClarity comes with the ability to separate out groups of PCs and apply policy uniquely to each to ensure IT cost optimization efforts do not result in and user productivity impact via appropriately targeted reclamation policy.
