Atkins chose SMS 2003 for software licensing compliance, patch management and application distribution. A need to reduce energy consumption without compromising service, safety or flexibility drove Dell’s energy conservation plan - implemented with 1E technology. By deploying NightWatchman and WakeUp across approximately 50,000 client computers, Dell has achieved a 40 percent reduction in energy costs, which translates into US$1.8 million.

NightWatchman from 1E was deployed on 300,000 PCs. The total number of global PC shutdowns on weekdays and weekends achieved with NightWatchman from 1E in 2009 was 9,346,534. This saved $1,090,180 in energy costs; 201,885,139 hours of computing power; 7,267,865 kWh of energy and 3,125,182 kg of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere.

National Instruments

National Instruments, a Texas-based hardware and software developer, worked with Climate Savers Computing through the Power Management Incentive Program to implement a pilot project to reduce energy consumption by computers. NightWatchman from 1E, empowered National Instruments to achieve a projected 33 percent energy savings with laptops and 50 percent energy savings with desktops, which subsequently reduced operational expenses. The Oldham Integrated Care Centre (ICC), which opened in November 2009, is one of the largest primary care facilities delivered by the Local Improvement Finance Trust initiative in the UK. The centre opened in November 2009 and is enabling NHS Oldham to make a step-change in the way healthcare is delivered in the borough. One key challenge was to put technology at the heart of the project.

NHS Oldham will be able to reduce energy costs by £41,000 in the first year and reduce its carbon footprint by around 800 tonnes per year by deploying NightWatchman from 1E across 350 desktops.

As part of an enterprise-wide systems management initiative, Parker Hannifin partnered with 1E to eliminate the need for 458 servers, reduce help desk demands and cut power costs. Parker Hannifin immediately saved an estimated $2 million in server costs and annually saves $600,000 in energy costs alone.

Park Hill School District has more than 10,500 students spread out over nine elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools in the Northland area of Kansas City, Missouri. With 1,500 expert faculty and staff members, 900 of whom are considered power users, Park Hill Schools District aims to build successful futures, each student, every day.

Peterborough City Council estimated that 30% of its PCs were being left on unnecessarily. In conjunction with 1E, Peterborough City Council looked at a simple, cost-effective and immediate solution. The NightWatchman® software solution enables the automatic, centralized power management of PCs across the ICT infrastructure. The benefits quickly achieved by the authority in its goal of reducing its carbon footprint and providing an example to others to advocate emission savings included a reduction of £50k on electricity costs and 250 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum.

pdf Princess Alexandra Hospital

The Princess Alexandra NHS Trust, based in Harlow Essex, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1995. It is a District General Hospital providing a range of services including intensive care and neonatal cots, plus community paediatric and midwifery services to the local communities. The Trust is in close proximity to the M11 and operates from a number of different locations including the main site in Harlow, together with outpatient and diagnostic services throughout the region. The Trust provides care and treatment to a population of nearly 258,000 people, employs 2,887 staff and has a turnover of £143million.

Working collaboratively with Microsoft and Reed Elsevier personnel, 1E was the first UK organization to deliver a Vista migration infrastructure and images to production machines in the UK. Utilising BDD 2007 (for its first deployment globally for Vista) 1E successfully helped Reed Elsevier migrate their Head Quarter PCs onto the new Microsoft platform.

SABMiller required a single reporting solution for servers, desktop PCs and laptops for status information, security patches and antivirus software. SAB Miller chose SMS 2003 for its reporting and deployment capabilities, and 1E for its design, development and implementation skills. Additionally it selected 1E’s RightClick Deployment™, WakeUp and NightWatchman Solutions to further enhance SMS, delivering a 30-40% reduction in support calls.

Rapid growth across Europe meant law firm, SJ Berwin LLP, needed a single, coherent operating platform and the tools to manage its IT assets cost-effectively. 1E delivered SMS 2003, plus its own specialist tools, to let the firm take control of the corporate desktop.

The University of Southern Denmark has cut its energy bills and improved the quality of the working day with the aid of the 1E Power & Patch Management. It can now switch on computers remotely overnight for a brief time in order to apply patches, eliminating disruptions to users during the day and saving an estimated $180,000 on electricity each year.

With a commitment to driving down its energy costs, Verizon Wireless deployed a range of technologies, including Power & Patch Management from 1E, across 63,000 managed machines within an infrastructure of 88,000 PCs for its USA call centers. The result is better power management, savings of $1.3 million per year and no compromise on performance.

Wakeup and NightWatchman not only saved VSP significant expenditure of energy costs and C02 emissions, but have provided the further benefit of enabling controlled and successful software and patch distribution. These tasks can now occur overnight or during weekends, and only require the machines to be powered on for less than an hour. Previously, PCs had to be left on for the entire weekend.

pdf Wolverhampton Council

Wolverhampton City Council required a solution that would complement the systems management features of SMS while ensuring the successful patching of 3500 workstations out-of-hours. They chose WakeUp for the following reasons: to complement Microsoft's SMS for systems management; to guarantee patching success; to significantly reduce patch deployment time; and to avoid any user interaction.
