The EE Global Forum and Exhibition, organized by the Alliance to Save Energy, drew thought-leaders on energy efficiency policy and implementation to Paris in April 2009.  Translating policy into action is always a challenge.

1E highlighted practical energy efficiency solutions in the IT energy management sector, showcasing the market-leading NightWatchman PC energy management tool, and providing more information on the eagerly anticipated NightWatchman Server tool due out in late summer.

IT energy management is a whole new area for many energy management professionals, who have typically viewed IT equipment as a black box with a fixed power demand that there is little to be done about.  1E demonstrated IT equipment’s power can be actively managed to make significant energy savings and can significantly enhance building energy management programs – a brand new perspective for many energy managers.

Presenting alongside regulators and utilities, including the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners, Southern California Edison, and TEPCO, 1E demonstrated how utility demand management policies and regulations can be transformed into practical action by customers to both reduce their energy cost, and help implement energy efficiency policy. 1E demonstrated how using the NightWatchman energy management software on PCs and Servers can reduce IT energy demand by over 40%, cutting up to 10% off a typical building’s electricity demand.  The link between policy and implementation was highlighted through NightWatchman’s eligibility for utility rebates to pay for implementation, and the business case for implementing environmental and energy efficiency policies was shown, with a proven return on investment of 6 months on average. Attendees also reviewed findings from the latest 2009 PC Energy Report from 1E and the Alliance to Save Energy.
