Process for Upgrading NightWatchman

When upgrading installations of NightWatchman v4.x to later versions please follow the guidelines listed below.
Set the NightWatchman40 service to manual start
Re-boot the computer
Perform the NightWatchman upgrade
If you are using systems management tools to automate the upgrade process then please ensure NightWatchman upgrades are performed when the user is logged off and the desktop is rebooted after the upgrade.
1E will provide a simpler upgrade procedure in the near future.

These guidelines are provided in response to a problem associated with upgrading GINAs, where desktop lockouts may occur when a user is logged on. If desktop loss has occurred, it can be retrieved by remotely restarting the NightWatchman service. To do this you must be logged on with an account which has permissions to restart services on the computer in question.
From another computer, open the Services Management Console
Select “Action” then “Connect to another computer …”
Browse to select the computer
From the services list, select the NightWatchman40 service and choose restart
