As we mentioned at the start of the year, our company one-word mantra for 2017 is “Velocity”. We are aiming high and moving fast. With this fierce approach to the year comes a reminder, (starting every Wednesday, in fact), that we must take the time in our fast paced ways to acknowledge what makes 1E so successful. It’s not just the fact that we are a reliable and trustworthy company— we do what we say we’ll do, and we don’t make promises we can’t keep— but we put stock in our employees from our interns all the way up to the top. We care immensely about their well-being.
Take a look back to November 2016, when 1E instituted a Wellness Week for our employees. An agenda filled with activities like sushi making (in order to connect with the people around you) and donating to charity (in an effort to stay humble and improve your mental well-being) gave 1E employees the chance to focus on themselves and their overall happiness.

A week for employees to focus on being happy and healthy? Don’t you want to work here??

We found that there were 5 categories we could focus on (1 tenet a day for the week):

  • Take notice— Increase your awareness
  • Connect— Relationships matter
  • Learn— Continually look for ways to improve.
  • Give— Acts of kindness towards others, great and small
  • Be Active— Move, move, move! (ping pong, anyone?)

Inactivity is a hidden threat. It's listed as the fourth biggest killer of adults by the World Health Organization. Sitting is the new smoking! Physical inactivity causes 9% of premature mortality – more than 5.4 million deaths a year – according to a report by The Lancet. So if you're wondering why our team is playing ping pong in the office, it's because we don't want them to die. It's science.

Several studies have shown that the more ambitious goals that we set, the happier we are. We pick how many hours we practice, and we take ownership over what we achieve. Personal development is a way to guarantee us serenity from within. This is how you’ll become irreplaceable to your team.
The person who can adapt the most wins. This is a piece of advice given to fighter pilots in the Air Force. It is not about the strength of the plane, but instead, it’s the ability to reach different situations that make a fighter jet. The best fighter pilots can adjust to more circumstances than the norm, making them much deadlier. One of the best things about life is that we never have to stop learning.

This same idea can be applied to our value to our organizations. If you can only sell your product, you are limited by your contribution. Our products are more than just software. They are tools that empower companies to be the very best that they can be. (And they might not even realize they could get *that* good.) Here at 1E we have irreplaceable employees. We are well rounded, smart, and are reaching goals at a high velocity.
