National Adoptation Week
Actress and adoptive mum Clare Grogan is leading the call for more people to join the army of volunteers who have become ‘Adoption Champions’ to help find more permanent families for children in care awaiting adoption.
Since its inaugural launch in 2010, the Adoption Champions initiative, run by the British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF), has recruited nearly 200 adoption experienced people. These Champions have successfully promoted adoption throughout their local communities – but more Champions are needed. With around 4,000 children waiting for adoption every year across the UK, it is more important than ever for more potential adopters to come forward.
Therefore, as part of National Family Week, BAAF – with support from leading IT Efficiency software company, 1E – is asking for more people to become Adoption Champions. From adoptive parents to those who have been adopted, people can make a real contribution by inspiring others to take that first step to giving a child a loving, secure, permanent home.
Clare Grogan said:
“As an adoptive mum I feel passionately about adoption and I want to help more children in care to find a family. That’s why I became an Adoption Champion and am asking others with adoption-experience to join me. By taking part in the scheme, people can make a real difference to children waiting for their forever family.”
Sumir Karayi, CEO of 1E commented:
“1E is delighted to support the BAAF and we wish this initiative all the success possible. Every child needs a loving home.”
Anyone over 18 with experience of adoption can become an Adoption Champion. And with activities ranging from putting up a poster to organising a talk at a local community centre, there is something for everyone. BAAF has developed a dedicated area on the National Adoption Week website for Adoption Champions which has loads of ideas and advice together with resources that can be downloaded.
Most activities will take place during National Adoption Week (31st Oct – 6 November 2011).
