International Women’s Day

It’s International Women’s Day. We all should celebrate this day.

For 1E and our charity, Fair Chance Foundation, this is an especially significant day. We have given ourselves a simple mission to fund fundamental and longitudinal (over a long time) ways to figure out why women are not going into higher education (tertiary/degree level) and then onto a vocation. We are starting with one state in India, Haryana. Our aim is to expand our coverage over time.

This research is vitally important.

Governments often spend a lot of money on programs to promote gender equality but achieve little as they have very limited scientifically proven facts to help them invest in the right interventions. Our project will help figure out the causes. Then, we can move on to testing interventions so we can help provide these desperately needed insights. I use emotive terms because it’s crazy that in 2019 women around the world (e.g. India) have very little financial independence or control over their own lives. This must change.

I have spent quite a lot of time with the research team and my respect for them grows every time we meet.

The Ph.D. students and the rest of the team have made considerable progress already. Given the wide scope of this project, it was easy to get lost. They have managed the project incredibly well (much better than we usually do in the IT industry) and are bringing back very interesting results already. I am excited as this kind of research is key to changing the world for 50% of its population.

Let’s leave the world a little better than we found it.

Today we are celebrating women all over the world. In our NYC offices, we are hosting a live-stream event on our Twitter profile. I hope you’ll join our VP of Global Customer Success, Sandra Guadagnoli, today at 12pm EST as she discusses her journey within the tech industry as well as challenges she’s overcome to get to where she is today.
