The British Liver Trust recently completed its 2-week Love Your Liver roadshow, supported with IT equipment on loan from 1E. The charity saw a huge rise in the number of people attending the roadshow for a liver health check and Fibroscan, seeing a total of 806 people, up from 495 in 2013. After their scan, those who need further tests are referred to their GP and again the charity saw 21% being referred, a similar figure to 2103 at 22%. The campaign achieved wide media coverage, being featured across BBC national & regional radio and with articles in Red, Top Santé, Men’s Health, Woman & Home, Daily Mirror, Daily Mail and major regional press publications.
Audrey Cornelius, British Liver Trust’s Love Your Liver campaign coordinator, said "We had queues outside the event vehicle every morning before opening at 10am. Each year interest is building and it feels like people are gradually becoming more open to discussing liver disease and the implications, but we have a very long way to go. People still don’t realize the lifestyle choices that can put them at risk – and that it’s not just alcohol! We were delighted to have IT equipment on loan from 1E which allowed visitors to complete our online health checker quickly and easily. We would love to run the roadshow for longer and to visit more locations, but of course need the funding to do so! We are very grateful to 1E and our sponsors, Eisberg alcohol free wine, Morrison’s, and Echosens. Now we are planning for 2015, to see if we can reach even more people."
Earlier, Sumir Karayi, co-founder and CEO at 1E, said "We're a social company and know all about playing hard, but of course it's important to recognize that it's not just heavy drinkers who are at risk of liver disease. We wanted to do what we could to help promote awareness of this issue, and the British Liver Trust's Love Your Liver roadshow is an excellent initiative."
If you didn't have a chance to get to the roadshow you can still check out your risk of liver damage by completing the Love Your Liver online health checker.
