There has also been a side benefit, he remarks. “If we have any software updates that we want to push out whilst people are working but not during the working day, we turn the computer on again at 2am remotely through a policy, install that software update and then shut the computers down again.”
The Trust is now considering further products to deploy, given the success of the current solution. “We are now looking at deployment of the server edition of the same technology which aims to reduce the power consumed by servers in the data centre,” says Jeffery.
