One of the common challenges introducing software into a corporate environment in the European market, particularly Germany, Austria, Benelux and France, is the approval by workers’ councils to ensure that the application and the collected data cannot be used, for example, for surveillance or performance tracking of corporate IT users.
1E has a proven track record of successfully working with workers’ councils to meet and exceed the requirements set by workers councils. In the case of AppClarity, we can limit the amount of data that is collected by the application by customizing the sms_def.mof file in SCCM to exclude, for example, the collection of user names within the database and application.
The example below describes the procedure to limit the collection of, for example, user names in SCCM software metering, which is one of the requirements for AppClarity:
- By setting the LastUserName property in the CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS class in the sms_def.mof to FALSE, the collection of user names can be excluded from software metering.
- As a result the user names will not be populated in the 1E AppClarity GUI:
In addition to the technique describe above, AppClarity can limit the access and visibility of data in the UI by assigning various roles of access for users and can further limit the data collection and database security rights to satisfy the demands of workers’ councils but still adds value in its ability to eliminate software waste within the organization.
