Team 1E to tackle London Marathon 2014 for adoption charity

Following on from last year’s successful effort, 1E CEO Sumir Karayi is once again running the London Marathon on behalf of the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF), the UK’s leading adoption and fostering charity, and this time he has company.
Joining Sumir will be Will Edmondson, Chief Financial Officer and Nick Milne-Home, Chief Operating Officer and President of 1E North America. Will, who is running his 4th London Marathon, says “I was only asked in February to run with Sumir & Nick so I am playing catch-up to get fit for the big day, however the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for BAAF, which 1E matches, and also to run as part of Team 1E was a challenge I could not refuse.”
Nick, 1E’s Chief Operating Officer, and President of 1E North America, adds, “I last ran the London Marathon 20 years ago and vowed never again! However, BAAF is such a great cause that I am delighted to put my running shoes back on and join Sumir and Will in this great fundraising effort.”
The trio are aiming to raise £15,000 for BAAF; £7,500 through donations which 1E will then match. Every child deserves a family and they work tirelessly to find ‘forever’ families for children who can no longer live with their birth parents. Since 1980, they have transformed the lives of nearly 10,000 children and helped over a 1,000,000 people through our helplines.
BAAF CEO, Srabani Sen, says “we are incredibly grateful for all the support we get from 1E. Our special thanks to Sumir, Will and Nick who will endure the grueling London Marathon to raise vital funds for the British Association for Adoption and Fostering. As if that was not enough of a challenge they have chosen to run dressed as Sunflowers!
“There are currently 91,000 children in care. 6,000 of them need to be adopted. Please support this amazing team generously so that BAAF can find more loving, safe and secure families for children who cannot be with their birth parents.”
Sumir, who finished the 2013 race in 4 hours 32 minutes, jokes “I was hoping to set a personal best this year, but wearing a costume provides the perfect excuse to miss it!”
A keen supporter of BAAF, Sumir continues “there is a serious message behind our costume choice. We hope that our work with BAAF brings Sunshine to the lives of those children who struggle to find adoptive parents.
