Useful Work analysis from 1E is a workload-based approach to datacenter energy management and a key DCIM tool

London & New York, 3 May 2012, 1E, the global leader in IT efficiency software, today announced that it has been included in the “Where are they now?” section of the Cool Vendors in Datacenter Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and Related Tools, 2012 report[i] by Gartner. Gartner “Cool Vendor” research is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services.

“We are pleased to be included in the “Where are they now?” section of this report after first being named a Cool Vendor in IT Support in 2008[ii]. We believe in making IT simple, efficient and deliver real savings,” comments Sumir Karayi, CEO, 1E. “To date, 1E has helped more than 1,600 customers make $800m savings energy costs with our suite of energy management solutions, including flagship PC Power Management solution NightWatchman Enterprise. This has led to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 5.8 million tonnes – the equivalent emissions of one and a half coal-fired power stations in one year,” concludes Karayi.

In the report, the analysts state that “by 2015, DCIM tools and processes will grow from 5% penetration in 2011 to 60%.” The Gartner analyst team recommended that IT executives should “make DCIM a mandatory requirement for all major data center builds and refurbishments” and “architect the integration of IT operations management, building management systems and DCIM.” Further they believe “DCIM is likely to be self-funding; the cost of the tools is likely to be offset by the savings in power costs that DCIM helps enable.”

NightWatchman Server Edition measures how much power is being used by servers and identifies which are being inefficient. It monitors the amount of Useful Work across physical and virtual servers enabling organizations to decommission unused ones with confidence. Through its unique workload based approach to datacenter energy management, NightWatchman Server Edition maximizes efficiency across all servers without any loss of availability and justifies your investment in the data center.
