Out with the old and in with the new- Major updates for 1E’s BIOS-to-UEFI 1.4

New York, July 5th, 2018 UEFI is a firmware standard required to support modern security features like Secure Boot, Device Guard, and Credential Guard. BIOS-to-UEFI enables organizations to automate the necessary firmware reconfiguration on Dell, Lenovo, and HP systems to switch from BIOS, which is old and outdated, to UEFI, the modern answer to BIOS, with Secure Boot during the deployment of Windows 10.

While many organizations have updated from BIOS-to-UEFI, there are still large businesses that have yet to make the switch. In the same way, organizations that make the move the Windows 10 without switching the underlying firmware from BIOS-to-UEFIwill be unable to take advantage of the significant security advantages available in the new Windows offering, leaving them vulnerable to cyberattacks

MVP Mike Terrill said, “With the amount of attacks and data breaches happening today’s age, now is the time to get as secure as possible and take advantage (or at least put your environment in a position to take advantage) of all the security features that Windows 10 offers.” Not only is the update an important one to maintain productivity, it plays a major role in security as well.

A few key features within 1E’s latest iteration are:

  • Automated password authentication for BIOS updates. This process is managed by the 1E BIOS-to-UEFI Password Setup task sequence.
  • Support for Virtualization – CPU Virtualization can be enabled within 1E BIOS-to-UEFI – Virtualization settings.
  • Support for the new version of OEM tools by vendors.

UEFI is the fastest way to get to a complete and secure Windows 10. If your machines aren’t running Windows 10, they are probably equipped with UEFI firmware. However, in order to take advantage of all the Windows 10 security features, the machine needs a single Configuration Manager OS Deployment Task Sequence. That’s where 1E’s BIOS-to-UEFI steps in. 1E makes the process simple, able to take care of the BIOS update at the time Windows 10 gets deployed.
