New update delivers support for the complete management of software deployment across modern Windows environments

London and New York – May 14, 2014 – 1E, the global leader in IT cost optimization, has today announced full support of UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) in its next release of Nomad™ – the leading software, patch and OS deployment solution for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). With support for UEFI, Nomad enables organizations running the very latest Windows operating systems to benefit from the most cost effective, zero-touch method for efficiently managing operating systems deployment.

The new update ensures Nomad can meet the increasing demand for native UEFI features, as Windows 8 devices – in particular tablet PCs – continue to drive adoption of the new standard firmware interface for PCs, designed to address the limitations of, and replace, the BIOS.

With UEFI support built into PXE Everywhere – a core component of Nomad – organizations can achieve windows migrations and ‘Bare metal’ installation of the Windows Operating System on tablets, notebooks and desktop PCs without needing servers, network configuration or administrative effort, even on Windows 8.1 Tablet PCs with UEFI Native Boot support.

Proven in active, daily use to scale to over 500,000 end points, Nomad delivers fully automated systems management for everything from day-to-day application maintenance to enterprise-wide Windows migration. It seamlessly integrates into SCCM, with no competing infrastructure or network hardware prerequisites.

The powerful automation tool treats complex, distributed networks as simple and local, producing transformative cost savings across the enterprise through peer-to-peer delivery. With intelligent bandwidth throttling, Nomad ensures that business traffic across WANs is never compromised, while eliminating the need for servers across the network. With Nomad, content only goes to the systems it was meant for, alleviating any data security concern and software licensing/audit liabilities.

Nomad has enabled organizations to save millions in cost through efficient migration, software deployment and server rationalization, including over $500 million in savings through server reduction alone. For example:

  • A large telecoms company migrated over 70,000 PCs to Windows 7 in only three months
  • A global insurance firm saved $44m by removing 10,000 ConfigManager servers

Sumir Karayi, CEO of 1E, comments: “Organizations are running increasingly diverse, disjointed and complex IT environments, and conventional methods of software deployment are costly and manual. With Nomad organizations can achieve huge savings across any SCCM infrastructure, while simplifying the management of IT and actively improving business performance.”

Nomad is being demonstrated on the 1E stand at TechEd North America 2014 (Stand 1801) this week, alongside 1E’s complete portfolio of products designed to find and eliminate unused IT and deliver ongoing transformational savings and efficiencies.
