Leading Environmental Attraction Selects 1E

London, 1 June 2009 – 1E, a leading provider of Windows management software and services who specialize in reducing costs within the business environment, today announces that the Eden Project in Cornwall has licensed its PC power management software. The organisation is currently deploying NightWatchman and 1E WakeUp across its PC estate as well as the retail point-of-sale till sites, ensuring substantial savings throughout the organisation and a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of the project.

With over one million visitors annually, the award-winning Eden Project is one of the UK’s leading visitor attractions and an environmental education charity. The software supplied by 1E has been implemented across hundreds of desktop computers and till outlets across the Eden site. The installation will allow the IT department to schedule an automatic maintenance window, whereby all the machines within the organisation can be automatically booted up for any security and maintenance patches.

Head of IT at the Eden Project, Jon Curry, believes that the software will also be able to enable the organisation to make significant savings on both their carbon footprint and energy costs. Curry commented, “Because of Eden’s work as an education charity, most of our team already have a high awareness of the importance of energy saving and switching off their PC at the end of the day, but now NightWatchman allows us to make sure 100% of machines are off. More importantly for the first time it has provided us with a comprehensive and efficient power management routine for our till network. We calculate that with the savings provided by the system, the 1E software will have paid for itself in less then 9 months.

Curry continued, “The implementation of the power management software is part of a wider Green IT strategy that we are currently implementing here at the Eden Project. Through a combination of more energy efficient hardware, power management and virtualization we aim to reduce ICT’s power consumption this year by 35%, and 1E’s software is making a significant contribution to achieving that target.”

Sumir Karayi, CEO, 1E, commented, “The Eden Project is one of the landmark projects for the environment in the UK – ever since its inception in 2000, it has proved an important organisation that continues to focus people’s attention on the environment and the impact we have on nature, driving an understanding of what we need to do to help our planet survive. We’re delighted that we’re able to help them reduce the carbon footprint of their PC estate through the implementation of our software.”

Already installed across three million PCs globally, NightWatchman enhances the power management capabilities of a customer’s computer by providing graceful shutdowns with the ability to save opened files; and combines this with an effective scheduling system in a single, easy-to-use package. 1E WakeUp ensures that all PCs targeted for software and patch distributions are turned on and ready to receive them, reducing the chance that a PC will miss a vital patch. In addition, built-in Computer Health functionality periodically runs tests and applies fixes designed to improve availability, reliability and performance.
