Mercy to Accelerate and Automate Windows 7 Migration with 1E
London and New York, November 20, 2013 – 1E, the global leader in IT efficiency software, today announced it has been selected by Mercy to accelerate and automate the migration of 45,000 PCs from Windows XP to Windows 7, ahead of Microsoft’s April 2014 extended Windows XP support deadline.
“We were faced with the challenge of upgrading our entire organization on deadline without congesting our network or incurring steep costs” said Scott Richert, vice president of Enterprise Technology Services for Mercy. “We selected 1E in partnership with Dell to reduce the time and business disruption created by this scale of an Operating System (OS) migration, but also to optimize our systems management processes moving forward. We have outlined a plan to save on costs and improve our overall IT efficiency by partnering with 1E.”
Initial manual migration efforts at Mercy for application rationalization were significant, projecting an organization-wide completion date of April 2015, a full year past the Microsoft deadline. Continuing with this strategy would have meant large expenditures due to license and Microsoft service penalties, plus costs associated with the physical labor required to execute the migration. What’s more, the one-time migration would have left ongoing needs related to expansion, new users, and software unmet.
Mercy will leverage a combination of 1E solutions and consultation to help eliminate these risks, optimize the migration, and expedite the project’s timeline. These services will also help with OS upgrades going forward. 1E’s AppClarity will be used for efficient application rationalization by helping to decide which applications will migrate based on license availability and usage. AppClarity’s proprietary application mapping ability was a major factor in Mercy’s decision.
1E Shopping will be used to empower end-users to decide when upgrades occur, minimizing disruption and removing administrative overhead. 1E’s Nomad product will be used to distribute content and provide ongoing support for new users and software updates after the OS deployment.
