1E Addresses Bring Your Own PC Market Need with Launch of MyWorkNow: Fast, Secure, Low-Cost Alternative to Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

London and New York, 8:00am ET October 6, 2014: 1E, the global leader in IT efficiency software, commissioned independent, market research firm and BYOD experts VansonBourne to conduct a survey surrounding chief concerns for Bringing Your Own PC (BYOPC) into the workplace. The firm surveyed 300 IT decision-makers in private and public organizations around the globe about their chief concerns for allowing employees to work from their personal PCs and determined that 86 percent of those companies that ban personal PCs cited security concerns as the primary reason. Addressing a clear market need for increased security to support the BYOPC movement, 1E, the global leader in IT efficiency software, today announced the release of MyWorkNow, a client-hosted virtual desktop (CHVD) solution that provides a secure, fast and low-cost solution for mobilizing a workforce.

MyWorkNow uses a client-hosted virtualization model, where the virtual desktop runs locally on the host PC, allowing it to run completely offline. By using the enterprise’s chosen desktop management framework, such as Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), MyWorkNow eliminates the need for additional hardware and requiring substantial central infrastructure.

MyWorkNow Features and Cost Comparison

In addition to requiring less infrastructure, MyWorkNow is approximately one tenth the cost of traditional VDI solutions and includes offline capabilities for users to work anywhere, anytime. Delivered through the 1E cloud, MyWorkNow provides federated authentication that extends the reach of an organization’s enterprise security system and can be delivered to any PC or Mac with four GB of RAM or more. Using 1E’s patented FastBoot™ technology, which streams the MyWorkNow desktop in real time as it boots up, users are able to access their corporate desktop within 15 minutes of deployment with full offline capability shortly after.

MyWorkNow delivers secure authentication and a secured 256 AES local image on a user’s own hardware. It includes a remote wipe functionality, which enables an IT department to immediately deactivate MyWorkNow on a user’s PC using the ActiveEfficiency.com cloud service. MyWorkNow also provides default client security, which eliminates employee opportunities to copy or paste in or out, file drag or drop in or out, as well as copy intellectual property to a USB HDD connection – clearly ensuring that corporate data is encrypted and secured at the user endpoint.

“Employees and organizations will both benefit from the BYOPC movement as evidenced by the VansonBourne survey,” said Sumir Karayi, CEO of 1E. “MyWorkNow addresses the security concerns that have historically been the deterrent for adopting a BYOPC policy. Not only does it help IT departments sleep better at night knowing they have full control, but it also enables them to run IT for less.”

Additional highlights from the VansonBourne survey state:

  • Over a quarter of survey respondents currently do not have a formal policy in place for personal desktop/laptop PC use.
  • More than a third of IT decision-makers prohibit BYOPC because of the associated needs to support and track software usage on personal devices.
  • 11 percent reported that despite not allowing it, employees use their own PCs anyway to access work.
  • 84 percent of IT decision-makers allow email access from personal devices, while only 52 percent allow access to hosted applications.
