An agile leap forward

A truly distinguished, global brand, Bacardi is responsible for many of the most famous and beloved liquors in the world; 1E solutions have been a part of Bacardi’s IT infrastructure for almost a decade. More recently, however, the partnership was significantly enhanced when Bacardi’s IT team opted to bring the management of that infrastructure inhouse (previously, it was managed by a well-known service provider), and turned to 1E for help in achieving a seamless move.

1E Nomad

Even though Nomad was already in place in the service-provider managed infrastructure, Bacardi reaped significant benefits once it brought management of Nomad in-house, reducing the number of secondary servers from 27 down to just 5. In addition, once it came in-house, Nomad’s ubiquity at Bacardi could also now be harnessed in service of the company’s Windows 10 plans.

“Nomad is everywhere within Bacardi,” says Keeble. “It means we have an efficient way of moving data to sites. So, instead of having data move multiple times to a site, we can move it once and that data is there. This becomes very powerful at times, such as during the patch cycle: we can send that patch once to the site and Nomad can distribute that for us, which gives significant alleviation to our wide area network.”

1E Shopping

Bringing Shopping in-house allowed Bacardi to update to the latest version, and plan to expand accessibility within Bacardi. Previously, Shopping has been used by IT to distribute applications to end-users. Now, Bacardi is planning to take the next step and allow end-users themselves to access the applications they need directly.

“Since moving from a service provider to in-house, we’re a lot more agile, particularly regarding application requests.”

Bacardi's plan for Windows 10

1E showed Bacardi how to manage Microsoft SCCM, and helped update it to the latest version, an important step in Bacardi’s Windows 10 plans. However key elements of 1E’s Windows Servicing Suite also play a pivotal role in Bacardi’s Windows 10 rollout.

“We use 1E Nomad as part of the OSD solution to deliver Windows 10,” adds King. “We also use 1E PXE Lite, which is a service that enables us in our locations to PXE boot for our images, so we’re not reliant necessarily on SCCM servers to house OSD for us, and we can use the Nomad client with the PXE Lite client to deliver images in remote, smaller locations.”
