Sasol cuts energy and software license costs

1E’s software license optimization solution, AppClarity is the fastest, most cost-effective way to reduce software sprawl and establish visibility and control of your software landscape and spend. The SCCM Power Management tool from 1E, NightWatchman, provides the enterprise with total control over the entire PC estate, 24 hours a day.

The international integrated energy and chemicals company Sasol sought a software asset management solution to manage software licenses and give visibility into which applications are used across all users in the company, as well as have the ability to reclaim unused installations of software and ensure that the company was compliant when it came to software license audits.

In the previous Sasol structure each business unit managed its own software. There was a change in policy to centralize and consolidate. The manager in charge of IT asset management comments: “We have more than 60,000 software installations across 2,786 different titles. This represents a potential overall saving of ZAR 82m ($9.4 million) if we reclaimed everything that was unused. My goal is a 50% reclaim level over the next six months which still represents many millions of savings for the business.”

Furthermore, with NightWatchman, the PC power management solution that integrates with Microsoft System Center 2007 Configuration Manager (SCCM) which Sasol uses to manage its IT systems, the company was able to power down non-essential PCs, reducing its carbon footprint to meet the company’s sustainability goals.

Discover how Sasol now has clear visibility of software licenses, is fully prepared for any software license audit and was able to be installed and configured in just days freeing up the IT team for core tasks and in addition reduce the amount of energy across its PC estate without affecting those machines that needed to stay on. Don’t let IT cost you the earth.
