Microsoft Gold Partner 1E enables ERM to supercharge Windows 7 deployment and optimize software distribution to 140 locations worldwide

London & New York – 25 July 2012, 1E, the global leader in IT efficiency software, today announced that Environmental Resources Management (ERM), a  global sustainability consulting firm with 4,000 employees worldwide, selected Nomad Enterprise to maximize its investment in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr).

ERM uses a combination of Nomad Enterprise and Microsoft’s ConfigMgr platform to distribute Windows 7 Operating System images to hundreds of locations worldwide quickly, securely and without disrupting network bandwidth.

“Previously, it would take more than seven days to get all the IT content needed for OS deployment to each of our locations. With Nomad, the time taken is reduced seven-fold, taking just 24 hours on average, depending on connection speeds at each office location,” comments Tim Edwards, Group IT Software Deployment Lead.

ERM also uses Nomad Enterprise to distribute all of its applications, including larger ones like imaging or modelling software. Typically, the Efficient IT software from 1E handles 20-25 packages every month, from scripts to software deployments and patches.

“Using the old method, it would take us around five days to send a software package across the network. With Nomad, it takes just under an hour,” concludes Edwards.

“Due to the dispersed nature of our network, we had to configure our machines to get updates directly from Microsoft.  In order to prevent network jams on ‘patch day’ we had to put download restrictions in place, which also impacted software deployments from System Center Configuration Manager,” comments Ian Golding, Group CTO, ERM.

Nomad allows us to distribute patches and OS images, without any consequence. Since it uses its own download mechanism, which minimizes the amount of data sent across the WAN and only uses spare capacity, it doesn’t cause bandwidth constraints or affect end-user productivity.  We now have very little overhead on WAN links and we save significant amounts of time – Nomad takes care of it all, so to speak,” concludes Golding.

“We are committed to working with our customers to ease Systems Management pain. We built to augment Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager so that Systems Management tasks do not compete with business applications and so that customers can save valuable IT time and budget,” comments Sumir Karayi, CEO, 1E.

Using spare network bandwidth, Nomad Enterprise securely delivers operating system upgrades, software deployments and patches safely and securely to thousands of PCs and servers day or night with zero disruption. This removes the need for branch servers or desk-side visits – reducing existing server footprint and administrative overhead.
