Modern Management is all about simplifying device management through the cloud.
The aim is to help accelerate enterprises through their digital transformation journey. The goal is to enable users, who are increasingly working remotely, to access the latest technologies and applications on their devices. This means they can do that from wherever they are, be it the office, at home or on the go.
Most organizations will eventually move to Modern Management. Enterprises have already made significant investments in traditional IT management tools, skills and processes, (think SCCM, Active Directory, Group Policies). These can’t just be transitioned overnight! They will require a completely different organizational, operational and mindset change.
Some feedback we’ve received from our own customers has been that whilst Modern Management tools are continuing to evolve, they aren’t able to deliver many of the capabilities customers need and expect today when compared to their existing Microsoft tooling using SCCM. Instead, organizations may decide to dip their toes in the water in investigating a co-management strategy, to understand which use cases and workloads they can transition to modern management, and those workloads that modern management tools just won’t be sufficient.
For certain, SCCM will remain ubiquitous for the foreseeable future.
There will be a continual requirement for solutions in the market that enhance (not replace) SCCM to better manage Windows endpoints through automation, such as the Windows Servicing Suite (WSS) from 1E.
Managing remote users and applications are notoriously difficult and without automation capabilities that simplify these tasks and augment existing Microsoft solutions to work that much better, IT teams will struggle irrespective of whether using traditional or modern management solutions.
With WSS, managing Microsoft software updates is that much easier and. IT simply publishes the update through Shopping, the 1E self-service portal, without the need to schedule. IT is in full control and it’s a piece of cake. And adding WSS to the Configuration Manager story puts users much more in control and allows them to actively upgrade their device at a time convenient to them through the self-service portal. Perfect for remote users on the go.
1E provides integration with Microsoft Store for Business.
In a co-management environment, users can request applications from Shopping including select applications that originated from Microsoft Store for Business, offering a one-stopping experience shopping experience
Applications can be automatically upgraded or replaced during the upgrade, according to rules defined by an administrator, so when the upgrade finishes, the user is ready to work with the latest OS and application versions. And this is all done during normal user downtime – their productivity has not been disrupted.
For any software deployment, content delivery and network bandwidth are key concerns. All users need to receive updates simultaneously with no impact on business traffic.
With 1E Nomad, organizations can reduce distribution points to a handful.
This results in a reduction of server infrastructure required while improving the overall robustness of distributing content of any size (multiple-gigabyte OS updates for instance) to all endpoints simultaneously without affecting network bandwidth. 1E also ensures SCCM clients are always healthy so SCCM can manage them. All these features ensure SCCM will have much greater success.
Endpoint management is our focus.
We augment Microsoft solutions so key business priorities can be delivered through automation and real-time responsiveness. Common business priorities for operational endpoint management teams, for which the latest Microsoft solutions need augmentation, include:
- Windows 10 migration and application management
- Compliance reporting (additional to the reports provided by security)
- End user experience and performance – especially for the often-forgotten remote users
- Security patching – OS, applications and security baselines
- Acquisition complexity – extending and consolidating newly acquired organizations endpoints
- Doing 20% more for the business each year with 5% increase in resources
