Something for nothing, that’s a great exchange…

Tachyon-Tuesday-light

Tachyon Tuesday has traditionally focused on showcasing new functions and features of Tachyon. There have also been some technical “deep dives” into using or creating new extensions also.
One thing we haven’t looked at yet, although certainly worth exploring, is the “Tachyon Exchange”.
The Exchange is a fantastic resource with a library (currently standing at 579 instructions) of extensions that are pre-baked and available for Tachyon.
You can use these Extensions (in the form of “Instructions” for Explorer and “Rules” within Guaranteed State policies) to enhance the capabilities of your Tachyon installation, or as inspiration and training guidelines, showing you how to achieve things with Tachyon.
Plagiarism, they say, is the highest form of compliment, and using the SCALE from instructions downloaded from the Exchange is a great way to leverage the work of others and increase your own knowledge.

The Exchange has examples of instructions and rules which run complex scenarios with pure SCALE. These embed Command Line arguments to handle changing Windows settings, which embed PowerShell snippets or entire scripts to leverage the power of PS and third party binaries as “Resources” which are deployed and executed on demand based on the rule trigger or running an instruction.
The use cases covered span basic machine management and health to security scenarios.
What’s even better is that, once you’ve created a free account, you can request new instructions or policies – provide the use case, ask and (very likely) ye shall receive. One of our team will create the instructions for you if you don’t know how to do this yourself. 1E staff do this on a voluntary basis to help our customers leverage the power of Tachyon.
In the video to accompany this blog next week, we’ll run through the process of downloading some policies and instructions from the Exchange and uploading them to a Tachyon instance (something that literally takes just a few clicks). In the meantime, go ahead and browse the Exchange Library  – you may find something of immediate use just waiting for you.
