The Key Features of WakeUp and the Additional Features When Combined with SCCM (ConfigMgr)

Achieve 100% Patch Management and Software Distribution Success

WakeUp powers up PCs using Wake-On-LAN technology, when used as a part of the NightWatchman Management Center it provides on-demand wake up functionality for individual computers or groups of computers directly from the NightWatchman Console. It also links in to the NightWatchman Alarm Clock and Maintenance Window features. Detailed reporting on WakeUp success and computer health are provided via the NightWatchman Management Center Reports Console.
WakeUp can also integrate this ability seamlessly into Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (ConfigMgr) and Systems Management Server 2003 (SMS). Administrators using this combination of WakeUp and ConfigMgr can now ensure that PCs are automatically powered on for software, and critical patch installation and routine management.
WakeUp is not only an invaluable tool for critical patch management; it also performs an essential function in power management, helping to reduce the total power usage of the PC population. When you are using WakeUp, PCs can be powered off when not in use because WakeUp will enable them to be there when needed.

The key features of WakeUp

  • Proxy agent Wake On LAN – WakeUp uses a highly secure, dynamic proxy agent based Wake-on-LAN solution, eliminating the need for Subnet Directed Broadcast or other changes to network infrastructure.
  • Scalable Wake On LAN – WakeUp can stagger the software distribution per site. This dramatically reduces the load on the site servers and greatly increases both patch success and efficiency.
  • Last Man Standing – WakeUp implements a unique technology where at least one machine on a subnet is guaranteed to be available to wake its peers.
  • Computer Health – WakeUp will report on a wide variety of configuration problems encountered with the client computer. WakeUp also provides automatic fixes for certain Computer Health problems.
  • On Demand WakeUp – WakeUp provides wake up from power off capabilities to the NightWatchman Management Center console. This allows individual computers to be awoken directly from the console.
  • Extensive Reporting – WakeUp provides accurate reports on the success of wake on LAN activities.

The additional features of WakeUp in SMS/ConfigMgr environments

WakeUp provides the following additional features for customers that benefit from having Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 or SMS 2003 within their environment:

  • SMS/ConfigMgr Policy Integrated Wake On LAN – Wakeup continually monitors the ConfigMgr database and will automatically wake machines that are targeted for new distributions of software, patches or OS upgrades prior to the deployment start time.
  • On Demand WakeUp – Wake Up allows an administrator to manually wake up individual machines or entire collections from low power state to be performed via a “Right Click” context menu.
  • SMS/ConfigMgr Computer Health information gathering – WakeUp will report on configuration problems with the local SMS/ConfigMgr Clients. WakeUp can also automatically create Collections in the SMS/ConfigMgr console containing the systems on which health tests have failed, enabling quick and easy maintenance. WakeUp also provides automatic fixes for certain Computer Health problems.
  • SMS/ConfigMgr acceleration – Policy Refresh and hardware inventory refresh – WakeUp supports pro-active Policy Refresh and updates the hardware inventory when it detects a change on a subnet. This enables your SMS/ConfigMgr infrastructure to react quicker and be more up to date in a way that does not impact its efficiency and scalability.
  • Extensive network wake state reporting – WakeUp provides accurate reports on the success rates of SMS/ConfigMgr deployments involving wake up. It also provides detailed information on any failures and the associated reasons.
