NightWatchman and 1E WakeUp help organizations to cut energy bills, reduce PC power consumption, and increase security
LAS VEGAS, NV – MICROSOFT MANAGEMENT SUMMIT ‐ APRIL 28, 2008 – 1E, a leading provider of software and professional services for Windows Management, today demonstrates the capabilities of its Power & Patch Management Pack at the Microsoft Management Summit 2008. The software solution enables a mid‐sized business (with approx.10,000 PCs) to save 1,381 tons of CO2 emissions consumed by idle workstations, and report accurate savings data to internal constituents and shareholders. The 1E Power & Patch Management Pack, a combination of 1E products NightWatchman and 1E WakeUp, also enhances security by guaranteeing 100 percent patch management success.
"Reducing carbon emissions has become a C‐level imperative, but it doesn't have to be complicated. Companies can realize dramatic reductions in just three to six months by using 1E's software to automate PC shutdown and wake up," said Sumir Karayi, CEO of 1E. "The 1E Power & Patch Management Suite also enables IT administrators to push critical patches and updates as and when required, guaranteeing 100 percent patch management success and minimizing the window for virus infiltration."
The Power & Patch Management Pack centralizes and automates PC shutdown and wake up processes. The solution offers easy installation, simple scheduling processes for daily, immediate or one‐off shutdowns. For the IT or facilities manager NightWatchman addresses the challenge of shutting down PCs in a large network where users have different working hours. For the individual employee, the solution protects unsaved data prior to shutdown, and allows the user to defer shutdown if required. For the C‐level executive, the product reduces bottom‐line energy costs, saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions.
1E WakeUp is a Wake‐On‐LAN product that automatically turns on computers for software and patch updates with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007/Systems Management Server.
Customer experience shows that around 30 percent of machines in an organization are in a powered‐off state at the time critical patches are deployed. 1E WakeUp powers up a fleet of machines to ensure it can receive the incoming patch. Together with NightWatchman, it can force immediate system reboots without any loss of user data to ensure that critical patches requiring reboots have the fastest take‐up possible.
The 1E Power & Patch Management Pack is proven to save $35 per PC per year and deliver a typical ROI of less than six months.
Research conducted by 1E found that if all companies across the US used the solution with their Windows systems, they would prevent 14.4 million tons of CO2 from reaching the atmosphere – the equivalent of taking all the cars in the state of Maryland off the road.i
